Clockwork
05:19
|
|||
In and out of packs who barely note my absence
Each functions smoothly as a broken clock
What's persuasive, is born of sheer coincidence
Run and fly, descend, we feed, then move off
If this is a beginning, beginning of what?
The cogs, coiling springs, they never stop
Counting up to future time they never meant to come
Those who won’t learn the course of the ships they pilot
…
Civilizations of clockwork, fire and glass
Scents of warm bodies, rot, bone, and volcanic ash
Within all their motion, don’t see this tail’s unmoving
They repeat what they’re made for, unquestioned
But when was the last time they wound up their springs?
Driven by fruits of spoiled knowledge long turned to carrion
If this is a beginning, beginning of what?
Their cogs, their coils, never bother to stop
Ticking till a coming time burns their back-stripe right off
And they won’t learn to steer the vessels they pilot
…
Is this the start of something that can’t ever be stopped?
Wind on this flank mixing my scent with their breath’s rot
They never meant these things, this time, to come
So they tick on, as though it has not

Crystallize
04:27
|
|||
To teeter on the brink
Did I see what took place here?
Does one follow scent of this thing?
Are you the one that made me–
a naked, killing thing, who’s lost in the light
In the cold, with no time, changing shape through this flight
If I slow down enough for plain thoughts to crystallize
Are you the one that destroyed me?
…
Bring you ruined space, lifeless
Are you gods, or a virus?
Let your world crystallize
Give me something that can never be mine
I can’t remember much
But could it have been your touch?
That tasted my blood, my fear
Left me in this shrinking sphere–
a shifter that can’t recall its own true form
Climbing up and up, tail streaking, weapons itch for more
Slow down, let feelings crystallize out of cyclone storm
Did you shape me, just to send me to die here?
…
…
I can’t remember
What it is to exist here
You try and give me back all that we were
Yet, at the same time, make it disappear

Alien Wind
04:30
|
|||
When sky wizards – mistakenly! – allowed them
Awareness of themselves
They say it took some time to notice
I think some still have failed to notice
…
Unarmoured, unanchored
Not lost, even as a leaf on the wind
Your monster, no longer
Can’t force your eyes open to what we’ve been
To strange worlds, on strange winds
Naked to unknown forests
Name these weapons, this fight
Sharp tips of each paw, all the bits in my bite
Do I know what this is all for?
Do I know who gave me these wings?
Do I fear what will happen to me
If ever I find out these things?
You, who don’t care
What you were, and what we’ve become
You, can’t see or smell
All this changing we’ve just begun
Our tails point only down when we don’t fly
And the food flees well ahead of your stomp
I can’t be lost, never knew where I’m going
You move like a seven-legged spider limping through a swamp
…
The questions, my answer
I’m finding out what world I’m in
Your monster, no longer
Can’t force your eyes open to what I’ve seen

From the Deep
02:44
|
|||
Climb up dank passages in the dark
Smelling of wet fur, and sodden bark
Lost in metal odour of this place
Now let my claws out
It's time to play the game
Swim up wet corridors in the dark
That stink of silver devils, and now my mark
Lost in metal odour of this place
My tail's like a streamer
Chasing, now this is my game
Leap from wall to wall to reach the heights
Convincing me
I'm not what I think I am
Can you help me?
Can this feeling set me free?
Can it save me?
Climb up these dank branches in the dark
Stinking of wet fur and sodden bark
Survey above but it all looks the same
Let these claws come out, and ignite my flame

Reassert
04:43
|
|||
Under daybreak, bitten
Try holding on, but I fail
As you watch and listen
Then force me to fly away
Running and falling, close in for mauling
And you better do your worst
Hunting information, hunt beings and nations
Prowling the shadow we'll cast upon the earth
…
To disappear like a phantom
Like the dust on a whisper of wind
To strike, then fade from existence
To return to this lush world’s dark twin
Fly naked next to you
Till my tail flicks me across these realities
Claws rip through worlds for you
Tumbling through sky here, thick fog, I won’t die here
But sometimes the healing hurts
And straightening out, see my whole world spread out
Spread your dark magic, so wonder reasserts
Strike, then fade, a tawny phantom
Transfer, just a bite, to spread our wings
to them
Running and flying, move close for spying
Tracking the scents of their worst
Hunt information, hunt beings and nations
Prowling our shadow that’ll be cast upon the earth
…
…
To return to my lush world, as it’s remade from within

Abyss of Amber
04:50
|
|||
Abyss of leaves
Move across branching paths, that go down and down
Coming for me
Through trees that are all that's left of my world, unbound
Naked at the very edge of the end of it all
Can I take it down?
…
Crumbling stone platforms, all that endures
Of how they thought they could stand tall
There’s no such thing left, as down to earth
And we all better not fall
Trees like their cathedrals
Counting the hours, gaining unearthly powers
What we’ve got’s not evil
Neither is it right, still living bound in amber
My tail drops as I hear them coming closer
Letting out an animal growl
Pads glint with light, run, find the right spot to fight
Claw up every inch lest it all become fouled
Trapped, locked within a single moment in time
No ground, no sky, just infinitely alive
…
…
Trapped, locked within, a single moment
Where the trees go down and down and down

Vertigo Fox Winnipeg, Manitoba
Vertigo Fox is a band made up of one mysterious, probably catlike creature.
A mysterious creature who, tired of
hearing the same themes in music year in and year out, decided to create something altogether stranger.
Vertigo Fox enjoys long walks and hikes, though the cats he inevitably encounters always tell him they're prowls.
