Dragon Egg 03:59
Spread out on top of a broken boulder As if I'd hatched from a dragon egg again Breathing in the stink of me in this world Again I can see it's changed A part of me feels I interlope But this is my planet too Padding, softly sinuous, down the steep slope ... I was sealed inside for so long Time to break out, time to take back my song A watcher of night I've seen you all from outside Seen your space is torn, defiled Washed away on your tide And you don't even know it You can't even see ... I was sealed inside for so long Time to break out, time to take back my song I was locked in my mind for so long Time to take back my world, time to rebuild it strong Unsealed I lie Tail lashing starlight Unsealed I defy Watching smoke rise Into burning skies

This is a tale of a slayer of monsters Bane of our kind, but hero to another Came of a race with no fur on their face And always wrapped with cloth or in metal Came to a place that was worlds away With bloodthirst drained, body still in fine fettle What he'd seen had turned him bitter What he had done would make your tail quiver Whatever he saw he had conquered But on this plane one stood up to him at last ... Beneath the trees the hero fought In furied resignation Beneath the trees they fought In the shadow of the water's basin The challenger had eyes of bronze And coat as dark as midnight Though his wings stretched barely wide As his foe's height, when he took flight And that foe had cased himself in iron Yet this challenger was certain that he could win the fight That he could halt the menace this night It was a brutal battle, the hero's shell impenetrable But then the challenger gained the air Brought down the dam upon the grove Took a breath, and down he dove Only one emerged from the water Our brave challenger ended this man's slaughter ... Beneath the trees the hero fought In furied resignation Beneath the trees they fought In the shadow of the water's basin Beneath the trees the hero fought In furious resignation Beneath the trees the hero lost His foe showed no hesitation So now, we rule the night once more And we are feared, abhorred We rule the night

A collection of feelings and images runs through a world Making dreams out of sense Filled with a misplaced confidence And then stalking Amid trees that aren't Slowing, pursuing Drumbeat of awareness pulsing in my heart ... Curving white towers, odor of rot Guiding me toward what I know not All alone in a forest of bones And here this one has no home Take me home take me Dream of life Or a life of dreams Rife with strife World isn't, but seems Making nightmares instead of sense Tail flicking, eyes intense Feeling I'm bare as a strange beast in the house Of old gods; of unknown consequence … To the nightmare worlds They call me to see In the ancient nightmare worlds Their song calls to me I am the world’s nightmare

Regenerate 03:56
Feel it It is time to put an end to this story Time to be a ghost Try not to leave a mark till I reach the beginning Breathe it And let it out See it And listen for my shout Smell it on you Transform with me Taste it Don't you see? They used to say that I was a changeling child And now it's time to change, so smile ... In the depth of night Moving undercover as the moon shines brighter Perceiving the world with clarity, intense Feeling small but I know I'm getting bigger A romance of warheads Burning bright for just a few seconds And when I leave A trail of broken branches in my wake Emerging, as from a jungle womb Wet and naked and warm So breathe it, and let it out Smell it, stronger now, and let it out Clear this level Don't leave your mark till you reach the beginning Smelling old leaves and animal musk I feel your tail against me as I prowl ... In the depth of night Looking for the start of a new story

They said to fear it But your lives are slipping away I've seen we can wield it If you choose to learn the way Watch it dance like the tip of your tail Watch it consume, remember the words to its song I sang ... Go on, bare your throats to me I bring you power, make you more than these... If you choose to cast me out You'll feel my burning rage, for When I return you will feed this creature They told me I'm barely out of spots And what am I doing, joining with this rebel lot? I'm just trying to make it to the next day Letting the wind fan my rage (and I may not want to grow inside) Gotta keep this little flame alive Little fire For I've seen what you can sire (but I can't hide from myself, can I?) So keep in mind my words ... So go on, feed my fire! Driven from the home I just found And I see the net closing round Will I lose everything I cared about For something I don't know I want anymore? Watch it dance like the tip of my tail And glint off my claws Can I live by that law? But it's too late to change my spots ... It's too late to change my spots

Stormwing 05:19
Claws click on cold stone floor I am poised like a drawn sword Bristling with strange urges Afraid to look into the mirror on the wall Of what I will see These broken pieces of mind Are almost peace of mind I know what I have to do These broken twisted pieces of me Little voice inside screams All that's left of what I used to be ... A crack like thunder draws me onward Feeling I'm pulled against my will into new life An abomination against all that's the norm Spreading black wings to join the storm An appraising glance at dark stone spires Poised to crumble under sky's fire Tail betrays a certain curiosity Feel I could let the winds take this black-coated body And I don't want to know why These broken pieces of mind Are almost peace of mind I know what I have to do These twisted instincts of mine All that's left of their time I know what I need to do ... I don't wanna know why I don't wanna know why I don't wanna know why I don't wanna know why I don't wanna know why I don't wanna know why I don't wanna-don't wanna- don't tell me why! ... ... An abomination against my very form Rising on black wings with the storm

Let me be, let me see Twisted winds, hold on to me Let me be, let me see Twisted love, carry me My twisted glider pulls this body up With a wrench to the gut, and a thumping of blood A long fluffed-up tail points to ground I come from A twisted love, twisting heart, full of qualms Over a swamp, call the voice of winds to sing Watching the ruins of civilized broken things Brushing the air, hearing from a grove Rumblings and screams of the souls that were sold
10.
Rising sun Why do you tell me that it's time to hide from the dawn? Because I still have a home just so long as I don't go there Because I still have a soul so long as it's never bared Ignoring the signs of a fine line You watch instead for one to impale Vector and velocity, propelling a steel ball Down magnetic rails into crocodile tail ... But what good are the rails with no train? And what use is a mind while still sane? How far can burning wings fly in the rain? How should a demon die, if not in pain? Talk like you've already won Then who are you running from? I know night will find you huddled in bed Asking just who's come to bite off your head I still have a home just so long as I don't go there I still have a heart just so long as I never show you where It's in there Somewhere ... What good is a fight if there's no change? And what use is a mind while still sane? How far can burning wings fly in the rain? How should a demon die, if not in pain? So never learn never change Walk this path you're on Till death or dawn Till death of dawn Ignoring the signs of a fine line You watch instead for one to impale Waiting to pounce your metal ball From iron rails to punch through fur or scale ... ...

You don't need To live this way Weak fleshy thing I see your pain Let my claws out From your cage Allow my tail To lash your rage Possess me x2

about

The universe is, for all we know, what is called a closed system. No energy can come in or get out.
But stories can.
These are some of those stories, songs that came here from over reality's gates.

about

Vertigo Fox Winnipeg, Manitoba

Vertigo Fox is a band made up of one mysterious, probably catlike creature.
A mysterious creature who, tired of hearing the same themes in music year in and year out, decided to create something altogether stranger.

Vertigo Fox enjoys long walks and hikes, though the cats he inevitably encounters always tell him they're prowls.
